Fraudulent WhatsApp Calls

Kozhikode:  On Sunday in Kozhikode, a person lost ₹40,000 as a result of online fraud.  The perpetrator has been revealed to be a former Coal India Limited (CIL) staffer.

The man allegedly fell into a scam when a fraudster posed as a close companion of his acquaintance from Andhra Pradesh via a WhatsApp contact.

According to reports, the scammer asked for money to pay for a relative’s surgery in Mumbai while using the friend’s voice impersonation and display picture.  The complainant then transferred the funds via Google Pay.

Officers from the Kozhikode cyber cell, however, expressed the opinion that a thorough probe into the issue was required and chose to make no further comments.

Based on a complaint submitted online sent to the police headquarters, a case has been opened in this regard.
