The attacker uses chatbots on messenger to trick the victims.
Attack begins with an email sent to the mailbox of the victim.
The message says “your page is going to be deleted in consideration of violence of Facebook Community Standards”, which is a totally fraudulent message conveying a fraud message.
That message is created to attract the user to the link they have set for them.
The link shows two words “Appeal Now”. It shows that the users can appeal legislation against the action taken by Facebook Management.
Definitely, it’ll take the user to an apparently similar to a Genuine Facebook Page Support Chat Box.
The user will be able to see a predefined msg there that says a similar msg as the previous page “Appeal Now”.
This “Appeal Now” will come in clickable format and after clicking on that button the user will be redirected to a different Facebook Page.
Now, this is going to happen multiple times. You’ll be redirected to several web pages that seem to be legitimate.
The pages will ask the user for various information related to the Facebook data of the user.
Question would contain:

1) Login email address

2) Phone number

3) User’s name

4) Page name

Near the end, a pop-up will show up that says put/ re-enter your Facebook password to confirm your appeal or something to that.
Here, the victim will lose all the key information to the attacker.
After that, the user will be redirected to a landing page where he/ she’ll be asked for the OTP.
Here, putting any 6-digit pair would send the user to a legitimate Facebook Article Page.

“If you see the “URL” carefully, you’ll be able to get that the portal is fake and purposely send you to the current position you’re in”.

According to the researchers, the page asking for OTP is more of a dummy page, which will not be able to send or accept OTP. It was just to show the users a legitimate action is taken.

Researchers have confirmed that the chatbots for deceiving people are taken back in time. However, this situation could appear again in the future, so the users are given this instruction, not to trust every email they see.
