Visakhapatnam, AP: An engineering graduate from Visakhapatnam was taken advantage of by a clever online dating scam, and as a result, they lost more than 28 lakh rupees. The victim, a mechanical engineer who was not married, was the target of cybercriminals who built bogus profiles on dating websites and apps in order to develop romantic relationships with persons who were unaware of their intentions.
How the techie was trapped?
Based on the findings of the investigation, it was discovered that the engineer had fallen victim to a well-planned scam that involved a phony web persona.
The con artists, who were operating out of Telangana, were able to deftly exploit the victim’s feelings in order to persuade him to send enormous quantities of money under a variety of different fraudulent pretexts. A member of the gang named KommagoniLokesh has been recognized by the police, and they are currently searching for the other two individuals who were involved in the crime.
“This dating scam is a new sort of fraud in which cybercriminals build bogus profiles on dating websites or apps that feature attractive ladies in order to lure men who are looking for a romantic relationship.” According to the Cybercrimes police station inspector K Bhavani Prasad, after contact has been made with the possible victims, the imposter engages in regular and intimate discussions with them in order to build trust and an emotional connection with them.
