iOS Bug Crashes iPhones with Simple Character Input: Find All Details Here

A recently identified flaw in iOS devices results in Springboard crashes when specific characters are entered into Spotlight Search. The issue is not regarded as a security threat and affects iOS 17 through iOS 18.1.

When a particular string of characters is input into an iPhone, a problem that was just recently found can cause the device to crash. When you type these characters on iOS 17, Springboard will crash, and the device will perform a soft reboot.

When it occurs on iOS 18 and iOS 18.1, it causes Spotlight Search to become temporarily unresponsive, but Springboard does not completely crash. It seems that the bug is affecting the iOS process for specific text strings that are contained within the Spotlight Search and App Library settings.

There is no official statement from Apple regarding this matter. When a particular text message was received in 2015, a problem that was quite similar to this one caused Messages to crash and iPhones to restart.
