Exercise Caution! Police Officer Arrested; Phone Call Records for Sale

Bengaluru, Karnataka:  An individual who is suspected of being the mastermind behind the unlawful sale of call detail records (CDRs) has been seized by the Bengaluru police. The individual in question is a police constable. Munirathna, a constable of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) stationed in the Kolar district, and Nageshwar Reddy, a citizen of Andhra Pradesh, are the individuals who have been taken into custody.

Seven individuals were taken into custody by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) in May, on the grounds that they were suspected of selling CDRs in an illegal manner. It has been alleged that clients, including criminals who were interested in tracking the travels of rivals, separated spouses, and estranged partners, sought these details.

The Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), Chandragupta, indicated that these arrests were a continuation of investigations into three cases that were filed in the month of May.  Despite the fact that the operations were headquartered in Bengaluru, he mentioned that customers were dispersed in a number of different states.  After conducting a study of contact numbers, the police established that members of the agencies were forming friendships with law enforcement personnel in order to get CDRs.

During the course of the raids, officers discovered that certain detective agencies were illegally collecting CDRs, as stated by the officer.  In accordance with the law, law enforcement agencies are only permitted to collect CDRs in the event that there is an active investigation, in addition to submitting a formal request that explains the cause for the CDR request.

On the other hand, these agencies were successful in obtaining CDRs for their clients in a manner that was illegal,” the officer added.

Earlier, the police had taken into custody Purushottam, who was 43 years old and from Kengeri; Thippeswamy G.K., who was 48 years old and from Marathahalli; MahantagowdaPatil, who was 46 years old and from Anjananagar; Revanth, who was 25 years old and from Vijayanagar; Gurupadaswamy, who was 38 years old and from Dasanapura; Rajashekar S., who was 32 years old; and PrasannaDattatreya Garuda, who was 36 years old and from Pune.

A connection existed between these persons and Rajadhani Corporate Service, which was located in Govindaraja Nagar. Additionally, Sathish Kumar J., who was 39 years old and from KothanurDinne, was detained. He was connected to Mahanagari Detective and Security Solution Pvt Ltd in Prashanthanagar. Srinivas V., who was 46 years old, and Bharath K.B., who was 28 years old, were also arrested. Both of these individuals were from J.C. Nagar. They were connected to an Elegant Detective in Basaveshwara Nagar.
