DRDO SUFFERED A HUGE DATA LEAK: LATEST CYBERATTACK NEWS MARCH 2025
“Pune-based DRDO scientist (Pradeep Kurulkar) got caught in a heinous crime incident in which he was accused of sharing confidential data with a Pakistani honey trapper.”
Nowadays, the days of cybercrimes are increasing rapidly at a huge rate, and because of that, a huge population is suffering from data privacy breach. Recently, a case has emerged in front of us that threatens the security of the whole nation.
In this case, it has come to be known that a DRDO scientist has leaked some confidential data, and while doing this, he was having an intimate conversation with a Pakistani Honey Trap Agent, saying, “Babe.”
During the attempt to honeytrap the accused, the Pakistani agent created several fake accounts with different names.
Juhi Arora and Zara Dasgupta were two of these names. Additionally, the same agent used two distinct phone numbers to create accounts on chat applications under these aliases. Both numbers started with the +44 London code.

“Pradeep Kurulkar, the Pune-based DRDO scientist arrested on May 3 on espionage charges, shared sensitive details about India’s missile, drone, and robotics programs with a female Pakistan-based intelligence operative.” |

“ATS claimed to have unearthed “explosive” chats between the scientist and the Pakistani operative. Kurulkar (60) was director of research and development at DRDO when he shared this information with the woman “to establish intimate relations with her.”
“By using the app, there might be a chance of malware being inserted in the mobile phone of the accused,” said the charge sheet. In fact, in the forensic analysis of Kurular’s phone, DRDO experts found malware and reported this to ATS. “Despite knowing that an enemy nation can seek more information and specific information related to the CEO’s working place and the nature of work and the equipment he manufactured for the Armed forces, Kurulkar shared the formation with the operative.” The IP address for the email account belonged to Pakistan Telecommunication Limited, while the recovery cellphone number associated with the email address the operative had provided was tracked to Pakistan-based Nayatel in Islamabad. |

“Kurulkar spoke freely about the Meteor missile, which is in the works at DRDO; about the Brahmos missiles, Rafael, Akash, and Astra missile systems; and also the Agni-6 missile launcher, in the development of which he was involved.”

Kurulkar also talked about DRDO’s continuing work on the Bharat Quadcopter, the medium-altitude, long-endurance unmanned combat air vehicle Rustom, and the Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle, maybe in an attempt to impress his female interlocutor.
When the female Pakistani agent inquired about the success of the Agni-6 launcher test in one of the chats included in the 1,837-page charge sheet, he replied, “The launcher is my design, babe… It was a great success.
Kurulkar and the suspected Pakistani agent exchanged messages from September 2022 to February 2023. Kurulkar was detained after DRDO notified the Maharashtra ATS of its suspicions regarding his actions sometime in March of this year.

“Karenge, thoda dheeraj rakho (Will do it, have some patience).” |
The charging document states that the Pakistani agent gave Kurulkar access to three email addresses: common158@gmail.com, dreamgirl56@gmail.com, and 26sweetpanda@gmail.com. She also gave him the passwords to these email addresses in an attempt to gain his trust, and he complied with her request to download two apps to his phone.
Kurulkar, currently incarcerated in Pune’s Yerwada jail, was detained by the ATS on May 3 on suspicion of espionage and improper communication with a neighboring country’s operator. In the course of its inquiry, ATS has so far questioned 203 witnesses.
Senior DRDO Official told ANI.
“The scientist had been removed as the Laboratory Director after our probe found that he was found indulging in leaking sensitive information.”
“The agency had launched a probe against Purulkar after receiving inputs from other agencies about his activities online,” he added. “He had been attached to some office, and we had already taken action against him,” the official added. |
The evidence we have collected seems to show that the data breached by the accused was related to the 2017-2023 DRDO confidential data. It can threaten national security and hamper the work of government agencies.
