An Increase in Ransomware Threats Worldwide, With a Particular Focus on APAC and Healthcare
Global cyberattacks have increased in the first nine months of 2023 compared to 2022, according to a recent comparison research conducted by Check Point Research. According to the research, there have been 3% more global cyberattacks on average per week this year than last.
Ransomware continues to be a major concern in the realm of cybersecurity, impacting 1 in 34 organizations—a 4% increase from 2022. By 25%, North America saw the most gain from 2022 to 2023.
The average weekly cyberattack rate saw notable year-over-year increases in the healthcare sector and the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.
Approximately 1613 attacks per week have been reported in the health sector, representing an 11% rise over the previous year. In addition, there were a lot of cyberattack attempts in the APAC region, up 15% YoY.
The report highlights the gravity of ransomware threats by showing that one in every 34 firms globally saw an attempt at an attack, a 4% increase from the same period last year.
Ransomware assaults have increased significantly in North America over the last year by 25%, making it the region experiencing the largest growth. The attractive business model that ransomware offers to cyber criminals, the expanding use of advanced tactics, the emergence of Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS) platforms, and the lack of adequate cyber hygiene in many companies are some of the causes that are contributing to the growth of ransomware threats, according to reports.
