Government Agencies Came Together Against Cybercrime, Exposed A Big Network

Cyber crime is continuously increasing in the country.  In such a situation, to protect people from this, the Department of Telecommunications (DOT), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and state police forces have joined the ongoing nationwide crackdown on cyber crime and financial fraud.

All of these have only one objective and that is to completely destroy the networks of fraudsters and disrupt their operations.  We also have to protect our citizens from digital threats.

Revealing A Big Network

The Home Ministry and the state police had come to know about a gang. When the police investigated, 28,200 mobile handsets were found from this gang. Which were being used for cyber crime activities.  The police investigation did not stop here.

To get to the bottom of this matter, the police analyzed the call records and connections related to these mobiles.  A shocking finding came out from this analysis, which revealed a huge network of 20 lakh (2 million) mobile numbers linked to criminal activity.

Destroy Infrastructure

DoT wasted no time and launched a two-pronged attack on the criminal infrastructure.  Firstly, a nationwide directive was issued to block all recovered mobile handsets.

So that the communication channels used by cyber criminals can be effectively cut off, thereby preventing them from succeeding in their work.

Disrupting The Network

The second part of the DoT directive is to target the network. As per the instructions, all 20 lakh mobile numbers linked to the handset will have to go through a rigorous verification process.  Numbers that fail this verification will be disconnected, further hindering criminal operations and making it more difficult for them to operate.

Government Agencies Came Together

The purpose of government agencies coming together for security is simply to take down both the devices and the associated networks.  This collaboration will not only protect the integrity of India’s telecom infrastructure, but also create a more secure digital environment for all citizens.  This action is a positive step towards a safer digital space for all in India.  By targeting millions of potentially compromised phone numbers, citizens can be more confident in using online services and conducting financial transactions.

However, it is important to remain cautious. Always beware of unsolicited calls and messages and avoid clicking on suspicious links. If you suspect any fraudulent activity, report it to the authorities immediately.
