Pune Man Lost ₹35L in YouTube Subscription Scam
The deceptive scheme manipulated the actions of the naive target of Pune man via WhatsApp communication.
Wakad, Pune: Yogesh Madhavrao Sonar, a 42-year-old local of Wakad, fell prey to heavy cyber fraud and lost ₹35 lakhs to a YouTube subscription fraud from February 12 to February 16, 2024.
The Wakad Police Station was notified of the victim’s complaint, which resulted in the formation of a legal case against Shambavi Soni, the owner of the Telegram account linked to the fraudulent operation.
As per the police statement, the victim was initially targeted by the offender via the mobile phone number 9885419725. Scammers convinced the target to subscribe to a YouTube channel exclusively via WhatsApp, promising advantages in exchange for no initial investment.
Capitalizing on the initial favorable perception of the victim, the defendant methodically deceived the complainant, obtaining a sum of ₹35,35,364 via multiple bank accounts.
The police department in Wakad has been duly informed of the complaint and has formally filed a case. Ongoing investigations aim to provide additional information and identify the individuals responsible for this fraudulent scheme.
