A Nallasopara man lost ₹2.4 Lakh in a cyber scam while trying to reload his Fastag account, indicating an increase in advanced scanning techniques.
In a heartbreaking incident, a guy from Nallasopara, 47, lost a significant amount of ₹2.4 lakh to scammers when he fell for a cyber scam while trying to recharge his Fastag account. The story emphasizes how cautious one should be while contacting customer service for digital services.
In an attempt to recharge his Fastag in order to make smooth toll payments, he ran into problems, according to the Free Press Journal. In an attempt to solve the problem, he went online and looked for the “Fastag Customer Care” phone number.
After finding and dialing a contact number, the victim unintentionally made touch with a cyber scammer. Under the guise of a real customer service agent, this scammer promised the victim that assistance was on the way. Next, the con artist gave the victim instructions to download a remote access app to his smartphone.
The victim downloaded the recommended program and followed the instructions, believing the so-called “customer support executive.” But this was only the beginning of a well-planned con. Six internet transactions in a flash resulted in the illicit removal of an astounding ₹2.4 lakh from the victim’s bank account.
To make matters worse, the victim was left stunned and helpless when the impostor “customer support executive” abruptly ended the call and stopped speaking with them.
The victim quickly reported the event to the local authorities after realizing the seriousness of the situation. Promptly, the authorities filed a case against the involved cybercriminals. The Indian Penal Code’s Section 420, which deals with deceit and dishonestly obtaining property delivery, and Section 66C of the Information Technology Act, which deals with identity theft, are the legal bases for the case.
